– Welcome to this using the command line in AutoCAD course. What we’re going to be doing as we work through this course is taking you through how to utilize the AutoCAD command line and also learn things about the command line you might not know. So the whole idea is we work with the command line down here at the bottom of the screen. As you can see, I can click there like that and I can type a command in if I want to. So I type in line, for example, and there’s the line command. I press enter and now AutoCAD is prompting me to specify the first point of my line.
So the whole idea of the command line is it’s a legacy tool from older versions of AutoCAD, when all you could do was actually just type in commands. This is before Windows came along and we obviously had things like icons, toolbars, and so on, where things became clickable. So what we’re going to do in this course is take you through how the command line works, how you can utilize the command line to work more effectively, how you can change the settings of the command line in AutoCAD as well and more importantly, just become more proficient with the command line so that you become more comfortable with it and become more productive with AutoCAD itself.
Just for reference, we will be using AutoCAD 2016 for the duration of the course, so other previous versions of AutoCAD will obviously look slightly different. So your command line might look a little bit different in a previous older version of AutoCAD if that is what you’re using. So let’s get started now and let’s get you through the using the command line in AutoCAD course and get you working with that command line in AutoCAD 2016.
