#FREE Rigging a Humanoid Character with Blender #3D + Animation #Blender

Blender is a powerful and free 3D animation and rendering package; one of its best uses is the rigging of characters. In this lesson, Ron Friedman shows us how to create the basic bones in a human skeleton and set up inverse kinematics to keep the movement of our character realistic?keeping the feet on the ground as you move the body, for example. He’ll also show us how to add controller shapes to make selections easier to perform and the bones’ purposes easier to understand. Then, Ron will duplicate the left-side bones over onto the right side in order to create a complete skeleton (with half the work!) and attach the mesh to the bones. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to give your character the rigging that it needs to be animated however you choose.

– Hi there. My name is Ron Friedman, and welcome to Rigging a Humanoid Character in Blender. Blender is a very powerful 3D modeling, animation, and rendering application. It can be used to create visuals for animation, special effects, and gaming. Probably one of the best things about Blender is that it’s free. It’s an open source application, so you can download it whenever you want and use it on OS X, Windows, or Linux. In this course, we’re going to go over the subject of rigging a character in Blender, starting with creating bones based on the location of our mesh.
After that, we’ll discuss how to set up inverse kinematics to make the feet stay on the ground when you move the main part of the body, for example. Next we’ll look at how to add controller shapes to our bones to make selecting them easier and indicate the way they’re meant to be used. We’ll then show you how to duplicate the left side bones over to the right side, to avoid needing to create them from scratch. And finally, we’ll show you how to weight the mesh to your rig and then tweak the weighting until it moves exactly the way you would like it to.
